Clement of Rome

Second Epistle of Clement

c. AD 120-160 · 12 chapters

Probably the oldest surviving Christian sermon outside the New Testament, urging repentance and holy living. It was passed down with 1 Clement under Clement's name, though most scholars think it is by a different author.

This translation was made in 1870 from a manuscript that had lost its ending. A fuller manuscript was published in 1875, so some closing chapters found in modern editions are missing here. This translation stops at chapter 12; the letter has twenty chapters in modern editions.
