About the four stars
Maybe they’re the four eparchies of the Byzantine Catholic Church in America — Pittsburgh, Passaic, Parma, and Phoenix — gathered above the cross.
Maybe they were meant to be the twenty-four Churches of the universal Catholic communion, and twenty-four stars was simply too many — four looked right, and symmetrical.
Maybe they’re the four Gospels, and the four Evangelists of the ancient apostolic Church.
Maybe they’re the four corners of the earth, and the spread of the apostolic faith to the ends of it.
